Make sure not to plan out every minute of the day, though; leave some white space - time to just be. Leave your phone out of sight for a few hours, commit to not checking your email for a day, and maybe even delete your social media apps for the day, if you need to.

February 21, Inspiration. The Sabbath is a complex blessing that we as Adventists have been observing for over years, but as the world is catching on to the benefits of the Sabbath new facets of its glory.
After six days of work, responsibilities, and stress, it can be difficult turning off that portion of our brain to focus on the Sabbath and simply rest. For those raised practicing the sabbath, or those who have observed for many years, it is easy to forget its blessing and focus on its legality. However, we were never meant to find this perfect Sabbath rest in our own power. God has never given us any gift without the tools to sustain it.
Every aspect of the Sabbath: its purpose, the day chosen, how we observe it, is all given with a purpose for our benefit. Click here to read my full disclosure policy. So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience. Click here for a full list of posts in this day series! This is the final part of a series I am working on about honoring the Sabbath and what it means for believers today. Feel free to catch up by reading part 1, part 2, and part 3. I distinctly remember learning the Ten Commandments as a little girl in Sunday school.
Every one of them made sense to me except…. Money is one of the most difficult topics to discuss in the church. Why is that? After all, money is universal to everyone. Seriously… everyone on the planet uses some form of exchange system to buy and sell. Yet for some reason, we get really uncomfortable. Unless a Higher Power would command people to stop working and set aside a specific day to rest, people would not consistently get together to spend time with each other.
As you can see, the Sabbath Day is more than just resting, but it is a day that keeps people together and strengthens their relationship with each other. I have heard a lot of people saying that the Bible is completely silent when it comes to animal welfare. It is just sad that since people ignore the Sabbath, they also ignore its benefits to other creatures. Remember the Sabbath day , to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God.
In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle , nor your stranger who is within your gates. Technically, if you own a cattle or any beast of burden, you are not in any way obligated to give your animals a day of rest. In fact, you have the freedom to do whatever you want to do with the animals you own. You need to be kind to them and give them enough time to recuperate and relax.
People who are divinely commanded to give rest to their animals and obey this command at the same time would less likely treat their animals cruelly not just on the Sabbath, but on any day of the week. God wants us to be responsible stewards of His creation and the Sabbath teaches us how to fulfill our role as the caretaker of that creation.
You may not know it but the Sabbath is a weekly reminder of who our Creator is. It points back to the creation week when God re-created this world after the angelic rebellion. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. God gives us a reason why we need to keep the Sabbath and that is because He made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them during the creation week.
The Sabbath constantly reminds us that it is God who gives us life. It is God who sustains us. It is God who takes care of us. Because of this powerful reminder, it helps us to be humble and remember God in everything that we do. Every week, the Sabbath stands as a reminder of who we are, who God is, and what our true purpose is on earth. Physical rest is only one aspect of Sabbath-keeping. We stop doing our work so we can better use our time in the service of God.
Every Sabbath gives us extra time to pray, study the Bible, and worship God. All these activities will inevitably bring us closer to our Heavenly Father. If we want to nurture our relationship with Him, then it is a must that you spend time with God and the Sabbath can tremendously help in this aspect. One of the most important things we must do on the Sabbath is to gather together as one Body of Christ. Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy convocation.
