She left him while still pregnant with Sammy, after being subjected to an appalling catalogue of abuse. Sammy also reveals the moment she discovered Huntley was her biological father, when she was years old and at school. She told how she was online and clicked on a story about Huntley, and saw a woman standing next to him, with a pixellated face, but realised straight away it was her mother. Her mother later gave her a box of news clippings about him, and she sat down and read them, telling the show how she 'couldn't stop crying' when she realised who her father was.

She says: 'I thought I was ready. About ten mins later [my mum] came back in and asked me how I was feeling and if I was OK and I couldn't stop crying. They told me about the two murders, it told me about what supposedly happened that night to Holly and Jessica.

But as she got older she wanted to write to him, and believed she could find out about his crimes. She adds: 'I feel like because of who I am that people think I am like him. Huntley was a caretaker at Soham Village College in East Anglia when Holly and Jessica were reported missing on Sunday, August 4, , after going to a family barbecue.

He invited them inside his house and the girls were reported missing that evening by their parents. A police hunt to find them began as locals also got involved in the search to find the two young girls.

A local gamekeeper discovered the bodies, and within a week DNA tests confirmed they were that of Holly and Jessica. Huntley claims he phoned his partner Maxine that evening, who had been away visiting relatives during the time of the murder, to tell her what he'd done. It is not known if this is true, however Maxine Carr was later jailed for attempting to pervert the course of justice because of the lies she told to cover for Huntley.

Holly and Jessica's bodies were not discovered for a further two weeks , on August 17 , in what was an agonising time for their families. Walkers found the remains next to a dirt track near to Thetford Forest, approximately 40 miles from Soham. They had been burned and dumped beside one another. Just hours before the discovery of the bodies, however, Ian and Maxine's lies began to unravel, raising suspicion over them amongst the police.

The couple were arrested following "items of major interest" being found by police in Soham Village College, where Huntley worked. Those items of interest turned out to be t he remains of Holly and Jessica's burnt Manchester United tops. During his trial, Huntley insisted Holly had suffered a nosebleed.

He claimed he'd been trying to help her attend to it when he 'accidentally knocked her into his bath' where she apparently drowned. A pathologist studying these claims, Dr Nathaniel Cary, rejected this story, however, calling it "wholly implausible". Holly Wells' brother Oliver also reportedly "conducted secret experiments in the bathroom at home to prove it was impossible", according to the Daily Mail.

The jury saw through Huntley's lies, too, and took less than 18 hours to return with a guilty verdict. Only one person on the strong jury believed the caretaker was innocent. It had been claimed during the trial by prosecutors that the motive for the murders was actually a sexual one, something which certainly links to his past , and is also supported by the fact Huntley washed his bedsheets after the murders had taken place.

Ian Huntley was sentenced to two life sentences, which means he will serve a minimum of 40 years in prison. Tapes leaked in February revealed Ian Huntley speaking out about the murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman for the first time. Obtained by The Sun , the recordings - which were made at his prison - depict Huntley admitting his wrongdoing. I am sorry for what I have done, sorry for the pain I have caused to the families and friends of Holly and Jessica, for the pain I have caused my family and friends, and for the pain I have caused the community of Soham," he reportedly says.

The recordings continue, with the murderer appearing to reflect on where Holly and Jessica might be now if he hadn't cruelly taken their lives. Click here to upload yours. Jump directly to the content. Sign in. All Football.
