The great thing about airsoft goggles is that they are impact tested and rated and would be useful not just for airsoft. When buying a good pair of starter airsoft glasses you will need to make sure that they are glasses that you will be comfortable wearing in other things other than airsoft.
I found the Valken Zulu below to be a great option for this. While many people claim that airsoft camo gear is useful in helping to keep them out of sight when playing , I suggest that you first play a few games for you do figure out your style and preferred mode of gameplay before getting camo gear.
Most of the fields you play at in airsoft have really rough terrain. This is part of increasing the realism and making game play more interesting. The other challenge is that if you will be playing in an abandoned building you are likely to find hazards like planks that have nails sticking out of them and other similar dangers.
Getting a good pair of boots that have thick soles and good ankle production will help to reduce the possibility of rolling your ankles or having a nail go through your foot.
Once you play for few months and find that you love the game you can upgrade to tactical boots that look more like military boots than the hiking ones. Based on the research I have done and the comments given by the dozens of thread posts I read, I would suggest that you play at least 2 airsoft games on rented equipment to get a feel for what Airsoft is like and what kind of player you will be. Face and ear protection are important when playing CQB. This is because you will be playing close to other players and you are likely to be shot from close proximity and it will hurt more in CQB than in the field.
Whether you are playing Speedsoft or general indoor airsoft, many opt for black outfits. Thankfully, the cost of military attire in black can be quite low. Brands like Rothco and Propper offer budget-friendly options when it comes to clothes. Prices are usually lower for solid colors like grey, black, or tan.
Although you can still wear whatever shoes you own, you may choose to buy some that fit your black attire. Hats or beanies are a popular choice for indoors as they are light and offer some protection if you get shot in the head. If you aim for a more tactical look to match your black gear, you may opt for a helmet. Before buying, use reviews on sites like Amazon to determine if the helmet you want will last.
Emerson Gear has budget-friendly options when it comes to helmets. Do note that wearing a helmet is only a viable option if your mask allows for it. Standard paintball style masks don't allow for helmets, but masks that are more open on the top, such as Dye, can be made to fit with helmets.
Outdoors can see more factors impacting what you may want to choose. When playing outdoors, wanting to blend in with your background becomes more prevalent.
The type of camo you select will depend on where exactly you live. If you want help identifying the camo that will be useful for your region, you can look up maps that show the best camos for your country.
The prices will vary on the brand and style of camo. Patterns that have been in production for many years will tend to cheaper. However, newer patterns, such as Multicam, will always cost more. Additionally, buying from brands like Rothco, Tru-Spec, or Propper will help save when comparing to higher-end brands like Crye.
The features and authenticity of these brands and camos are all preferential, so choose based on what you want and what your budget will allow. Red Gas hits harder, but shortens the life of the gun, and Black gas I have never seen, only heard about.
Co2 guns use standard CO2 cartridges, one person I play with stands by them because they hit hard and can last all day on one cartridge, but I have not experienced this myself. The WE is decent enough, but many airsofters go for the Japanese made guns, Tokyo Marui makes very good pistols, and Western Arms WA makes high quality guns that many people wouldn't think of playing with. The Japanese manufacturers however usually use plastic slides, Chinese co's usually use metal, which means they can take higher pressures.
Parts for pistols is another huge market, with many parts available for almost all styles. You can buy full metal slides, high output valves for the gas, new grips, and all sorts of add-ons.
Okay, so you like airsoft! Awesome, it's a fun sport that can get expensive, but from what I've heard, at relative depths, paintball is much more expensive once you commit to it.
Gloves are the first step past the essential equipment, although many players still run barehanded. A rifle bag completes the transition to an airsoft player who wants to play regularly.
A backpack works for a while until you realize the compartments simply aren't made for weapons. So what's next after you get a bag? Well, probably a hat next, head shots have made me bleed rather profusely.
A sling makes it so you don't have to hold your rifle all day long. Kneepads, shuffling on your knees around a warehouse floor with small bb's rolling around begs for the irritating pain of bb's embedded in your knees as you slide around.
A tactical vest is perhaps the next evolutionary step into being deeper into the sport. A vest protects against center mass hits, as well as being a load carrier, for extra mags, perhaps a camelbak style hyrdration system, a pistol, communication equipment, anything you want on hand during a game.
Since I began playing, I've seen the increased use of lasers, and then their decline, and now the increased use of flashlights to momentarily "blind" players is what I've noticed. Then grenade launchers yes, they make airsoft versions of them, including claymores and actual revolving revolvers, and shotguns that eject empty shells. Try to think about the long term needs, most beginning players will buy a crossdraw vest, only to realize it has a lot of useless pouches or simply does not look "real", see what other players have and use, and see what you want your look to be.
Well, that's enough for anyone to get started in airsoft, I didn't talk about combat tactics, the various internals of airsoft guns and their maintenance, or anything like that, but this Instructable is meant to be the first day to first month guide, if you want to polish up on that stuff, please, let me know, if there's enough interest, I will try and make a new instructable about some of the finer nuances of airsoft. Thanks for reading! Reply 1 year ago. The rifle is more of a sniper too.
Reply 2 years ago. Reply 6 years ago. Reply 8 years ago on Introduction. Colt M4A1. I have one that I sawed off with a hacksaw after the barrel got chipped via my own stupidity.
It's an awesome gun. But don't people rob places with them because they look so real? And can't people get badly injured by them? They are illegal in the place I live because people would try killing other people and robbing stuff with them.
Airsoft is centered around honor, calling your hits and even going as far as to not bring it around town with you. The vast majority of players I have met are super honest and just want to play the sport we all love. Can some one please respond to this? I know its not electric or gas, and its made of plastic, but i WANT a spring rifle.
BTW, I had a plastic spring rifle and it literally snapped in half. Maybe I shouldn't have hit that guy over the head so hard You should probably look for ABS plastic. Well I want to know from someone with some expertise, not parents on amazon or something. I already have the site picked out, I just want someone to post a review right here.
As a general rule, never buy a spring gun if you are serious about the sport. Buy a nice AEG to start with. Very low maintenance, and super easy to use. Just pop the battery in and it's ready to go! Best of luck man. Actually the. It is the only true in between from the. The six fields that I have been at and almost all of the events that I have been at use the.
Reply 13 years ago on Step 3. That's interesting, the online retailers I've shopped at don't even offer. Playing in casual shoes can be done, but can also hurt you with time. Like, if you run a lot outside in shoes, you may twist an ankle, but good boots will protect you with stability. Any kind of a helmet is welcomed, if you own a safety helmet you can bring it, but a simple baseball hat will do the job.
If you want to know a bit more about helmets and why they may come useful you can check my post in this topic here. Some people wear anything and do not worry about additional protection and I understand them. However, any thick material will help you receive less pain, so if you want to play airsoft in shorties or jeans, go ahead, but be aware of the incoming pain from time to time.
There is nothing as thick and protective than a good leather jacket. I personally own multiple leather jackets and wear them for different occasions.
I must state that not a single BB can be felt through it, but I own thick leather jackets and some people wear the thin and soft leather jackets, therefore not every jacket is the same and some will provide you with more protection than others. When a BB lands on the leather it also makes a nice sound, so you will not have to worry about accidentally not calling hits. I have found a helmet, chest rig and a uniform in the basement.
I guess it belonged to my grandpa or to some cousin, but it was still quite new, so I am not sure whether it was battle tested at all. In case that you can find some in your basement or perhaps in local pawnshops, such gear can be used in fields and in case that you want to play some MilSim event it may be of even greater advantage.
Okay just kidding, but this could actually work too just like any protective suit you may come up with. It is not common to see people wearing unordinary stuff, but I believe that creativity it always a big plus.
Imagine wearing a bee suit in the middle of the winter, I bet that there are no better options for remaining unseen. These uniforms are not only good looking and come in many different colors and patents, but are also comfortable and made for real action. To be honest, all gloves that fit the fingers well and allow you to aim and fire a gun are good, the only difference with tactical gloves is that they look more badass.
As I have mentioned, helmets are not essential and a simple hat or bandana will do it, but there are some cool benefits of helmets. Airsoft helmets and other paintball or tactical helmets are a good option if you want to either fit the outfit properly, protect your self additionally or most importantly open some space up for gadgets such as the lights and cameras.
My personal reason for wearing a helmet would be to put a GoPro camera on it and record the games if it were not for the outfit. One day you may watch the footage of when you were young and battle-ready or you may create your youtube channel and get some views of crazy highlights. The chest rigs or chest plates do not only appear nice, but also provide you with tons of functionality. At beginning you may not need one, because you will not own lots of gear anyways, but with time you will get more stuff and you will need that precious place.
Imagine wearing 5 magazines and 5 grenades with BBs and a speed loader all in the trouser pockets, very unproductive. I have written a guide on it for beginners. I have heard people complaining about losing a tooth it really rarely happens though or getting a cut lip after getting hit.
As I have stated above, some cloths will provide you with better protection than the other, but to realistically see what you really need, you should probably first take a game with classic outfit and after that upgrade it. However, do not be afraid of getting hit, it does not hurt that much even if you get hit directly on a skin. If you want to know more about common airsoft injuries and how dangerous they may be you can check my post on this topic here.
The thing with these events is that they are quite unpredictable and everything depends on the thematic of the event. Airsoft MilSim is based on events that can last for days and are based on the idea of a military simulation that often finds place outside of towns, deep in the woods or abandoned places. Sometimes you may go for a realistic Marine Corps loadout and the other time it may be a Navy Seals or Russian world war 2 thematic of the event.
